If you have a love of horses and want to get involved within the industry there are many big, small and diverse jobs on offer in the equestrian industry. There is always a constant demand for workers in the horse industry and depending on how lucky you are, you may have the opportunity to travel interstate or overseas with your job.
Wages vary within the equine industry, some employers pay good money and others will pay low and exploit their workers. Young and up and coming enthusiasts who are wanting to work in the horse industry need to be careful as many bad employers will see this and work you hard and pay you extremely low wages or some expect to be a form of work experience. Be careful, not all horse jobs have to be like this. There are a number of different types of horse jobs available and these are; groomer, trainer, rider and mounted police. Groomers also known as strappers, stable hands or the like carry out basic tasks in caring for the horses wellbeing such as feeding, grooming, maintaining equipment and more. Trainers will require an extensive background with horses, generally will have some form of professional qualifications and probably too started out as a groomer. Riders have quite a few things that must followed to do the job well such as maintaining the right weight, early morning training sessions, fearless and prepared to carry out other tasks as in assisting looking after the horse. Mounted police, unfortunately you cannot just join the police force and expect to start riding horses, you need to be in the force for around 4 years, then be trained in the position. Not only will you carry out police work, you will also be required to assist in maintaining the horse also.
